Story by Coach
Sophie Chambers
Monday night, under drizzly, cold conditions, the lady
hornets' tennis team dropped an incredibly evenly matched dual
against LeBlond with a final team score of 4-5. The night started
slowly due to the rainy drizzle, and the coaches decided to start
play with singles matches in case the rain came back and ended the
night. By starting with singles, one team could possibly reach the
five necessary wins to end a dual early. However, the head-to-head
contests were so close, the teams had to play all the matches for
the night to find a winner. Thankfully, the rain held off just long
enough to finish play, but the dual did not go the hornets' way.
First off, the #6 match finished quickly with a loss
for senior Sarah George, while on the court next to her, the
opposite was true for sophomore Jasmine McLean who won quickly. The
other singles' matches were much closer and lasted an hour each with
senior Keonnia Morgan finding the other sole singles' win for the
hornets. Seniors Crowe, Clark, and Shira played tough, competitive
matches but each lost right at the end. Then McLean and junior
Summer Gatson battled all the way through a tie-break in doubles to
pick up the hornets' third team win while Crowe and George played
beautiful tennis to clench the fourth team win. However, the top
doubles match played by Clark and Shira ended quickly with a
dominant win by LeBlond to secure that match and the overall team
win. The lady hornets move to 2-3 in MEC play.
