After spending their summer practicing at the Trenton courts
while local courts were under construction, the Chillicothe lady
hornets felt right at home playing at THS on Thursday night. They
faced off against the lady bulldogs in a team dual under warm, sunny
conditions. Trenton was led by their star #1 player, senior Astrid
Soriano but were missing their strong #2 player for the night.
Chillicothe played their full regular roster and ended the night
with a strong 7-2 win.
The night started with commanding play from doubles
Bianca Clark and Keeley Shira as well as doubles Jasmine McLean and
Summer Gatson. Micah Crowe and Keonnia Morgan put up a good fight in
a back-and-forth battle with Trenton's number one doubles pair but
eventually dropped that match. In singles play, Crowe had another
tough battle with Soriano, but the rest of her team picked her up
with confident individual matches to end the night with five
singles' wins. This win was also important for CHS as it improves
their seeding in team districts in just over two weeks.
Results were as follows:
#1 Doubles -- Micah Crowe & Keonnia Morgan lost to Soriano & Sadie
Tobias 5-8
#2 Doubles -- Bianca Clark & Keeley Shira beat Matty Schultz & Katy
Simpson 8-3
#3 Doubles -- Jasmine McLean & Summer Gatson beat Jacey Hudson &
Addisyn Wehar 8-0
#1 Singles -- Micah Crowe lost to Soriano 1-8
#2 Singles -- Keonnia Morgan beat Schultz 8-1
#3 Singles -- Bianca Clark beat Tobias 8-0
#4 Singles -- Keeley Shira beat Simpson 8-2
#5 Singles -- Jasmine McLean beat Hudson 8-0
