Macon hit a bucket with 15 seconds left, then stole the
ball from Chillicothe six seconds later to secure the win in
front of a large crowd at the Chillicothe gym.
Chillicothe's Kelsey Hicks hit a bucket to tie the game
with 30 seconds left but Macon regained the lead 15 seconds
later. Following a time out, Chillicothe in bounded the ball
at mid court but Macon picked Chillicothe's pocket for the
steal. A collision following the steal gave Macon the free
throw line where they made one of two with 2 seconds left.
Macon, with three starters returning from last season's
State 4th place team, took the lead early with two free throws
but never led by more than eight points. Chillicothe tied the
game twice late in the fourth quarter but never led in the
game.
Macon was led by 2nd team All State player Rachelle
Butner with 23 points. Chillicothe, which at times fielded a
team of one senior, two sophomores and two freshmen, was led
by Kelsey Hicks with 21 points.
