12/1 at Chillicothe 44, St Joseph Lafayette 41
Chillicothe held off a second half
comeback attempt to beat St Joseph Lafayette 44-41 in the season
opener at Chillicothe High School. The Lady Hornets went on an 11-0
run in the 1st quarter and led by as many as 14 points in the second
quarter. A reenergized Lafayette team played a strong third quarter
to pull to with-in two points by the end of the third quarter.
Lafayette had a chance at sending the game into
overtime, but a baseline left three point attempt didn't connect at
the buzzer. Chillicothe coach Karen Jackson said it was a typical
season opening game for a young an inexperienced Lady Hornets team
that features just one senior and only one player saw significant
playing time last season.

12/5 at Macon 60, Chillicothe 24
A full court
press and a nine-player offensive attack was too much for the Lady
Hornets who dropped a 60-24 contest at Macon. Chillicothe suffered
from cold shooting, managing only two free throws in the first
quarter and didn't hit their first field goal until 4:26 left in the
second quarter. Macon led 14-2 after one and by as many as 23 points
in the second quarter thanks to hot perimeter shooting, hitting 10
of 28 from behind the arc. A 30 point Macon lead at the end of the
third quarter gave the Tigerettes a running clock in the fourth and
a quick victory.

Westran used an effective 1-2 punch of post
player Becca Schemmer and guard Rachael Richards to beat Chillicothe
36-26 at N.C.M.C. in Trenton. Schemmer had 17 points and Richards
had 14 points for Westran, who outscored Chillicothe in every
quarter.
Chillicothe scored the first basket in the game but
that would be their only lead of the game. Rochelle Gillilan had all
seven first quarter points and Leanne Mathew had four of the team's
six points in the second quarter as Chillicothe hand problems in
getting shots to fall and finding opportunities to even shoot the
ball. Chillicothe falls to 3-3 and will travel to Kirksville on
Wednesday.
