The Chillicothe Lady Hornets gave up a 15-1 run in the late 1st and
early 2nd quarter and could not recover, losing to Lafayette 41-34
in the Savannah Tournament.
Chillicothe was up early 6-1, but started falling
behind. After tying the game at 7-7, the Lafayette run
continued, expanding to nine and eventually ten points in the
second quarter. Chillicothe had the lead down to two points
three times in the second half but could never get any closer.
Chillicothe’s Sophomore Guard Erin Gilliland suffered a
shoulder injury in the late 1st quarter and never returned. Her
family took her by car for medical treatment. Maddy Williams led
Chillicothe with 12 points including three treys, Samantha McKiddy
with 11 points, Sarah Baldwin with 7 and Maggie Graves with 4
points. 6 other lady hornets played but did not score.
Unofficially,
Chillicothe shot 27% from the floor. The Lady Hornets take on
Liberty North at 6:30 tonight for 3rd place.
Lafayette's Sophomore Ashley Hinkle proved to be the
difference in the fourth quarter, scoring 8 of her ten points
in the final stanza.
