Liberty North's Point Guard Selena Dunn had 28 points,
including 16 of 22 from the free throw line to lead her team
past Chillicothe in overtime 60-51. Dunn hit 6 of 9 free
throws in the fourth quarter to keep her team in the game.
The Lady Hornets lead most of the first half, by as
many as 8 points, but a Liberty North 5-0 run to end the half
gave them a 4 point lead. Chillicothe led by 2 after three
quarters.
Senior Sarah Baldwin hit a basket and a free throw for
a 3 point play with 32 seconds left to give Chillicothe a 2
point lead, but the familiar sound of the referee's whistle
gave Dunn three free throws with 16 seconds left. She hit two
of the three to tie the score. Liberty North had a chance to
win in regulation when Chillicothe committed another of their
27 fouls in the game with 3 seconds left, but 6'0" Audrey Wood
missed both free throws to send the game to overtime.
Liberty North won the tip off, and went on a 12-0 run
before Baldwin hit a trey with seconds left for Chillicothe's
only points in the overtime.
The Lady Hornets were saddled with three players
who fouled out, and another-Maggie Graves-who sat out much of
the second half after taking a hard spill onto the floor and
hitting the back of her head. Erin Gilliland didn't suit up do
to an injury in the previous game, and two other players were
not there due to a death in the family.
