Chillicothe started slow but put together strong 2nd
and 3rd quarters to beat Liberty North 47-42 in the Kearney
Girls Tournament. The win avenges an earlier loss to Liberty
North.
Chillicothe made the first basket of the game,
but wouldn't lead again for nearly three quarters. After their
first two baskets, Chillicothe fell on hard times, giving up a
7-0 run to Liberty North and trailed 11-4 heading into the
second quarter.
Chillicothe Junior Maddie Williams nailed a trey from
top of the key at the halftime buzzer to narrow the gap to
just 3. Chillicothe tied the game up three times in the third
quarter before a bucket gave them the lead with 2:42 left in
the third, and Chillicothe would hang on for the rest of the
game.
The Lady Hornets had a 6 point lead heading into the
final quarter, which became a free throw exhibition. Liberty
North narrowed the game to just one point in the third, but
Chillicothe outscored Liberty North 7-2 after that, hitting
seven free throws.
Chillicothe finished 19 of 32 at the charity
stripe while Liberty North was 12 of 22 at the line. Liberty
North also had trouble from the outside, hitting just two out
of 14 three point attempts.
