Chillicothe Junior Maddie Williams made the final three
points in the final four seconds to give Chillicothe a 49-46
win at Trenton.
Chillicothe led by 7 points in the fourth
quarter, the biggest lead by either team in the game,
but Trenton continued to battle. A Megan Sole trey followed by
a Scotlin Hurley deuce tied the game with26 seconds left to
play.
Chillicothe nearly lost the ball coming out of
the time out when a Chillicothe pass was tipped and stolen by
Trenton, but the official said the ball was off the leg of the
Trenton player, and Chillicothe had a second chance. With nine
seconds left, Chillicothe ran Coach Parkey's play to
perfection, with Maddie Williams driving the lane and hitting
the lay up with 4.2 seconds left.
The drama was not yet over. Trenton attempted a 3/4
court in bounds pass that ended up going out of bounds on the
sideline. Since no one touched the ball, Chillicothe
in-bounded it underneath their own basket. Williams was fouled
with 1.6 seconds left and hit one of two free throws for the 3
point win.
The victory, however, may have come at a big cost.
Chillicothe's lone senior Sarah Baldwin drove the lane in the
second quarter and hit a lay-up in traffic, but landed wrong
and left the game with an injury to her right knee. Baldwin
kept ice on the knee and after the game, Coach Rachael Parkey
did not yet know the extent of the injury.
