The
Chillicothe Lady Hornets jumped to an early lead and downed
the Kearney Junior Varsity team 42-28 in the Kearney
Tournament 7th Place game. Chillicothe scored the first 11
points in the game before the Kearney JV team scored at the
2:40 mark left in the 1st quarter. Chillicothe led by more
than 20 points several times in the contest.
Chillicothe spread the work load around with four
different players scoring the first four baskets for the Lady
Hornets. Kearney's JV team was content to work on the outside
shooting game, which apparently still needs work. The JV Lady
'Dogs missed their first 19 three point attempts before
finally making one in the third. They finished 2 of 28 from
behind the arc with Paige Weakley earning the persistence
award. Weakley, a 5'9" freshman, missed her first 10 three
point attempts before finally making her last one in the
fourth quarter.
Chillicothe was led by Maggie Graves and Erin Gilliland
with 16 points each. Graves was also named to the
All-Tournament team, while Gilliland had her best game of the
season, hitting 7 of 8 field goals and both free throws.
