The Chillicothe Hornets played a better first half, but still
lost to Smithville on Senior Night.
Chillicothe received the kick off but couldn't
make a first down. After the punt, Smithville's Charlie Nihart
took the hand off 53 yards for a quick 7-0 lead. Chillicothe
put a long drive together but ended with a interception at the
34 yard line,
In the second quarter, a bad snap by Smithville was
recovered by Aaron Baker on the Smithville 37 yard line. It
took just three plays to score: A pass to DeEll Midgyett and
two Luke Plummer runs, the final one covering 5 yards into the
end zone.
A short kick off by Chillicothe gave Smithville the
ball on their own 45 yard line and 5 plays later they were in
the end zone again. A 34 yard field goal at the end of the
first half gave Smithville a 17-7 halftime lead.
Smithville opened the second half with the ball and it
took just four plays to find the end zone. Chillicothe
responded with Aaron Baker fielding the kick off at the three
yard line and taking it 97 yards down the right sideline for
the touchdown. The run set a school record for the longest
touchdown of any kind.
Chillicothe couldn't hold the momentum. Smithville put
a long drive together only to have it halted at the 2 yard
line. Chillicothe failed to earn a first down and Smithville
got the ball back at the 12 yard line thanks to a long punt
return. Four plays later they scored.
A 57 yard pass play in the 4th quarter would wrap up
the scoring for the game. |
